Established in 1815 , Davidsonville was the state's first planned town and served briefly as the capital of the Arkansas Territory . Its designation as capital from 1815 to 1820 marks it as a cornerstone of governance, commerce, and community in early territorial history. Named after William Davidson , a territorial delegate, the town flourished due to its strategic location on the Black River , which made it a prime site for trade and transportation.
