Petit Jean State Park in central Arkansas is a true gem and proudly holds the title of the first state park in Arkansas , established in 1923. This beautiful destination combines natural wonders, outdoor recreation, and rich cultural history all in one. The park’s name comes from the poignant legend of Petit Jean , a young French girl who disguised herself as a boy to secretly accompany her lover on a voyage to the New World. Tragically, she fell ill and passed away while they were camped on what is now known as Petit Jean Mountain.
